Sue Mayawati

I dedicate the following cartoons to Mayawati...

I sure miss them.

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse

...you discover that they can!

Pretty much the story of many people's lives, except that there are no real sharks (but there are real threats nevertheless!)

Mon soon or late

The delayed monsoons have raised a lot of concerns.

The MET department assures that there is no cause for alarm.

And that's what inspired the following cartoon...

Then again, there are some Indian ministers praying to the Rain God, undertaking special yatras and performing special rituals for good rains in their states.

What if the God does react to their prayers ?

Wailing about the Veil

The French Parliament's proposed ban on the burka and President Sarkozy's comment about the burka being 'not welcome' in France as it is a 'sign of subservience' has stirred up a lot of debate.

And that's what inspired these cartoons...

Tribute to Tea

(Multilingual content)

Besides coffee, I also like tea, especially the authentic Indian kind.

Here are some cartoons about chai...

The second cartoon is an old Punjabi joke, I've just re-created it in cartoon form.

Cheers to all tea-drinkers!

Heaven Vs Hell

Which is better between heaven and hell?

Since I haven't been to either, I can't say.

What if we live so-called 'ideal' lives thanks to our glorified visions of heaven and when we finally get there, it turns out to be nothing like we expected? These were the thoughts behind this cartoon...

And like I quite expected, some people didn't see it my way. I received the following comment on my toon:

"im not sure this toon was a good idea. i mean, im Christian. and everybody in my church KNOWS Heaven will be PERFECT! and NOBODY wants to go to hell...its a HORRIBLE place!! TERRIFYING, HORRIBLE, INNAPPROPRIATE is the definition of hell!! and NOBODY wants to go there! and its NOT so much better!! even if you were joking, it doesnt matter. God would not want to know that even if somebody was joking, was choosing hell over Heaven."

(original comment here)

So to all those of you who may find this toon offensive, if it clashes with your religious and / personal beliefs, please note that this:
  • (like all my other toons) is just a figment of my imagination and bears no resemblance to reality whatsoever
  • is not about any religion or god, its about beliefs and expectations
  • is also an indication that you can tell me to 'go to hell' since I've offended you (trust me, I wouldn't mind!)
  • is well, at the end of the day, just a cartoon!

What should we do today?

Leisure by W. H. Davies is one of my favorite poems...

"
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep and cows
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
"

Here's what
many of us do with our 'leisure' time...

The idea for this cartoon was based on a suggestion from fellow tweeter Bharathy. He suggested that I create something around the theme of life in the city.

The poem just seemed to go along!

Something fishy

Yesterday, I got a fish pedicure done from a foot spa in Delhi.

I was made to keep my feet in the water tank while a special kind of fish called Garra Rufa or Doctor Fish nibbled the dead skin off. I was very apprehensive about getting this done, but I'm glad I did because my feet sure felt and looked good immediately after.

Here's to the fish...

The last toon above includes the picture of an actual signboard. I clicked this at Bournemouth beach.

Not in our jeans!

I was shocked to read the news about jeans being banned in women colleges at Kanpur, a move supposedly aimed at protecting women from harassment.

And that's what inspired the following cartoons..

This jean-o-cide makes no sense whatsoever!

I finally got a new (Dell) laptop after all the trouble I had with my older (HP) one over the last couple of weeks.

A friend created the following cartoon which pretty much sums up how I feel about it...

And I hope it remains that way!

    Speaking of Speakers

Last week, the Indian Parliament elected its first woman speaker.

Some people noticed and tweeted about the fact that I have the same name as her (spelt differently though!)

And so, I re-posted this older cartoon about Parliamentary Speakers...
